Excerpt from the article:

In "Our Gallery of Players " this week the portrait of Miss Isabelle Urquhart is presented, instead of that of Adelaide Arthur, which had been announced. Miss Urquhart possesses a magnificent figure?a figure that the newspaper reporters tell us is " Dianesque," whatever that may mean?has a handsome face, is not a bad actress, and has a fair mezzo-soprano voice. She, furthermore, has the reputation, whether rightly or wrongly, of being belligerent toward other prima donnas of the comic opera stage.

"Erminie" was running a most successful season at the Casino, New York. Miss Pauline Hall was the prima donna, and Miss Urquhart was playing the part of Cerise
Now the public had discovered, and the critics had recognized, the latter lady's "Dianesque" beauty. No woman will allow herself to be called " Dianesque " and confess ignorance of the meaning of the term by not dressing up to the character. So Miss Urquhart, without taking the trouble to visit the New York Metropolitan Museum, and thereby learn what the huntress goddess really wore in mythological clays, ordered a magnificent costume, and appeared in it in '' Erminie."
The new dress was a great hit.

Miss Pauline Hall, who had been lulling the Casino audiences with enormous success, took umbrage at the attention Miss Urquhart's dress attracted.
Then came the four hundredth night. Not only did Cerise appear in the garment the leading lady had already objected to, but she actually had the audacity to put on a brand new dress of the most showy sort for the second act?
